Before you book

Three questions worth asking.

  1. Who places the implant?
  2. Are imaging and restoration handled in one office?
  3. What is included in the written estimate?

Compare the complete implant team, not one advertised price

Implant treatment may involve diagnosis, extraction, grafting, implant placement, temporary teeth, an abutment, a crown or denture, sedation, and maintenance. Offices may perform every stage or coordinate with outside specialists.

Define the treatment scope

Clarify whether the plan is for one implant, an implant-supported bridge or denture, or a full-arch treatment. Ask which teeth are removed and what temporary teeth are expected.

Itemize every stage

Request separate lines for examination, imaging, extraction, grafting, implant placement, components, laboratory work, temporary teeth, final restoration, sedation, and follow-up.

Plan for maintenance

Ask how the implant and restoration will be cleaned, monitored, repaired, and replaced over time and which office will provide that care.

Provider and case fit

Why implant training and coordination matter

Planning, surgery, restoration, and maintenance affect one another. Ask who performs each stage, what training applies to the proposed treatment, how the restorative dentist and surgeon coordinate, and who manages complications.

Questions that reveal more than a star rating

  • Who plans, places, and restores the implant?
  • What training and experience apply to this treatment?
  • What imaging and grafting might be needed?
  • What is included, excluded, and covered if a stage must be repeated?
01

The implant may not integrate

Healing is not guaranteed. Health, bone, smoking, infection, loading, and other case factors can affect integration and may require additional care.

02

Surgical or biological complications can occur

Treatment planning should account for available bone, gums, nearby teeth, nerves, and sinus anatomy as applicable to the site.

03

The restoration can create long-term problems

Fit, bite, hygiene access, component wear, and maintenance can affect comfort and durability even after the implant has integrated.

Dental implant questions people ask

Does an implant quote include the final tooth?

Not always. Ask whether the quote includes the implant, abutment, crown or denture, laboratory work, temporary teeth, imaging, grafting, and follow-up.

Does every office place the implant itself?

No. Some offices place and restore implants, while others coordinate surgery with an oral surgeon or periodontist and complete the restoration afterward.

Can dental insurance cover implants?

Coverage varies by plan and may exclude implants, apply an alternative benefit, or limit payment through an annual maximum. Verify the procedure, provider, and expected patient portion with both the plan and office.
