Compare alternatives first
Ask whether whitening, bonding, orthodontics, a crown, or no treatment could address the concern with a different cost, timeline, or amount of tooth preparation.

Veneers can change tooth shape and color, but different offices may propose different materials, numbers of teeth, preparation, and alternatives. The most attractive photograph does not explain whether the plan is appropriate for your teeth and bite.
Ask whether whitening, bonding, orthodontics, a crown, or no treatment could address the concern with a different cost, timeline, or amount of tooth preparation.
Clarify how shape, shade, length, number of teeth, gum appearance, and bite will be evaluated before final restorations are made.
Ask about cleaning, grinding protection, repair options, expected replacement, cavities at veneer margins, and what future work could cost.
Provider and case fit
Veneer treatment combines dental health, bite function, material selection, laboratory communication, and aesthetic judgment. Ask the treating dentist to explain alternatives, irreversible steps, expected maintenance, and how the proposed result will be previewed.
Some veneer plans require enamel removal. Ask exactly how much preparation is proposed and whether a more conservative option is reasonable.
Covering a tooth does not replace diagnosis of decay, gum disease, grinding, cracks, or bite forces that may affect treatment.
Color, translucency, proportions, speech, bite, and the transition between veneers and natural teeth should be discussed before final placement.
Some veneer techniques require permanent tooth preparation. Ask the dentist exactly what will be removed and whether bonding, whitening, orthodontics, or another option could meet the goal more conservatively.
The veneer material does not decay, but the natural tooth can still develop decay around or beneath its margins. Ongoing home care and professional monitoring remain important.
Veneers should be diagnosed and provided under the care of a licensed dentist. The ADA warns against unlicensed veneer services that remove the dentist's role in diagnosis and patient safety.
